About the Author

Marge Dawson - ALOHA!

I was born in Durban, South Africa, and always loved the sea. I worked in various fields, including a Bank, Direct marketing of household products such as plastic ware, pots, linen, etc. and even sold property for many years. I never dreamed that I could become an award winning author!

My passion for pearls originated in 1980 when I owned a franchise for “Pearls in the Oyster”. Over a period of 3 years we opened hundreds of Akoya oysters, containing the most beautiful pearls. The customer would choose an oyster I would open it, drill the pearl and set them onto rings, earrings or pendants of the customer’s choice.

Margarita is the Greek word for a pearl, which came into use at the end of the 19th Century, generally referring to mollusk, which still produce beautiful natural and cultured pearls. Margaritae is the Greek word which means something ‘cherished’ or ‘valued’ which very aptly describes pearls.

Pearl and Margaret became popular names for girls, and coincidently my full name is Marjorie, which derives from Margaret which is a derivative of Margaritis. I was born in June, 1934 and pearls are the birthstone for the month of June - seems like I was destined to love pearls…

I sincerely hope that you will find this handbook a lovely keepsake, which will stimulate your interest in one of God’s beautiful creations, PEARLS.

The perfect gift for all to treasure!
